Effie Piliouni Albrecht
was born in Athens, Greece, the daughter of an accomplished artist who
instilled in her both a love for education and experimentation with art. She studied
English Literature and Classics at the National Kapodistrian University of
Athens and Linguistics at Cambridge University, England, and speaks four
languages. After moving to the United States in 1981, she received a Master's
in Comparative Drama and a Ph.D. in Medieval Literature from Auburn University.
She taught writing, English, American and world literatures, Women's Studies,
and ESL at Auburn University for more than twenty-five years.
Now retired from teaching,
Piliouni Albrecht has more time to pursue her creative passions. While she is
an accomplished author, she is also a visual artist, specializing
in mosaics, paintings, and wood carvings. She is a member of the Auburn Arts
Association and has participated in numerous group and juried exhibitions in
the Auburn area.
Piliouni Albrecht published her first book, Regeneration: Made in China,
in 2013 and has presented many invited author talks and local book signings.
She is the president of The Chewacla Writer’s Guild, which anticipates
publishing a collection of their member’s best creative works by early 2016.
Effie also is a member and historian for International Women for Peace and
Understanding, and a volunteer with Friends of the Auburn Public Library, a
non-profit organization.
Effie Piliouni Albrecht lives in Auburn, Alabama with her husband and
her two daughters.
